Infertility and Genetic Testing - solving genetic puzzles for the future!

The Reproductive Genetics Institute (RGI) provides quality infertility treatment including in vitro fertilization (IVF) and is world renowned for its experience in the field of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). RGI's IVF Laboratory provides “state of the art” IVF and PGD services with a fully trained staff of highly qualified embryologists, capable of performing microsurgical techniques such as intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) to achieve fertilization, assisted zona hatching (AZH) by partial zona dissection to increase the chance of an embryo implanting and biopsy procedures for PGD. Our IVF laboratory offers the option of embryo culture to day 5 (blastocyst stage) allowing for the identification of the healthiest embryos in order to reduce the number of embryos transferred avoiding high risk, multiple pregnancies. We provide cryopreservation of supernumerary embryos for future use and work with couples requiring special needs such as oocyte donation and sperm donation.

IVF and PGD require a combination of medical geneticists, molecular biologists, cytogeneticists and research scientists working in conjunction with the infertility specialist. RGI has just the right combination offering the most advanced testing available. Because many IVF patients are of advanced maternal age and have an increased risk for conceiving a child with Down syndrome or other chromosomal abnormalities, we have pioneered oocyte testing that makes possible the detection of numerical chromosome abnormalities (aneuploidy). RGI has performed over 2500 PGD cycles for aneuploidy since its inception in 1994. It is hard to underestimate the benefit of such testing, which results in the higher efficiency of IVF procedures and even more important, should eliminate concern for ending a pregnancy which may be affected by age-related chromosomal abnormalities.

Additionally we have performed over 200 PGD cycles for couples who carry chromosome rearrangements and over 500 PGD cycles for couples carrying single gene disorders who are at risk for abnormal offspring helping those couples have healthy children.

RGI’s clinical staff consists of experienced physicians, genetic counselors and nurses who provide quality care. They recognize the fact that infertility treatment and IVF in conjunction with PGD is extremely stressful, anxiety prone and disruptive to people's lives. Therefore, they are available 7 days a week offering our patients professional counseling with regard to the procedures being done and the interpretation of genetic results.

As a result of our vast experience and highly trained staff, RGI offers our services to patients around the world. In addition to its Lincoln Park address in Chicago, we have performed over 3,000 IVF procedures in our satellite centers in Cyprus, St. Petersburg and Krasnoyarsk (Russia) and Turkey with affiliate locations in London, Belize and the Czech Republic. The latest addition to the international family of IVF and Reproductive Genetics Clinics is the RGI Center in Belize (Central America) and Istanbul (Turkey).

Ovulatory Dysfunction is the single most frequent cause of female infertility and denotes a problem with the monthly release of an egg (ovulation). There are varying causes for ovulatory dysfunction; the most frequent one is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). RGI has extensive experience in treating women with all forms of ovulatory problems.

RGI's In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Program is one of the largest in the country and is well respected for its quality of services. The continuous research efforts we are involved in offer state-of-the-art care. This program serves as a training ground for colleagues from all over the world. Our outcome data is available for you to review in Pregnancy Rates.
