In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
RGI's IVF program is well respected for its quality of services. The IVF laboratory is
accredited by the College of American Pathologists. The continuous research efforts we
are involved in offer state-of-the-art care. This program serves as a training ground for
colleagues from all over the world. Our outcome
data is available for you to review in IVF
Outcome. Should you have additional questions or wish to make an appointment for services,
please contact us.
Treatment:
With IVF, a widely known ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) procedure, eggs
are obtained from the female after her ovaries have been stimulated with infertility
drugs. While under a short period of sedation and with the use of ultrasound
guidance, a needle is inserted into the ovaries and eggs are aspirated. These
eggs are then fertilized in the laboratory (in-vitro) with the partner's sperm
and the developing embryos are cultured from three to six days.
Embryo transfer is performed on day 3 of the IVF process or on day 5 at the blastocyst
stage of embryo development. The embryo transfer procedure is performed with
a tiny catheter, usually unperceivable to the patient, in which embryos are placed
into the uterine cavity. RGI recommends when PGD is done, transfer is done on
Day 5. Approximately 10-12 days after embryo transfer, a blood sample is taken
to determine pregnancy.
IVF Value:
RGI has a wide variety of ART procedures available to the patient. Determining the right
treatment and procedure is done on a case by case basis. Though like most high quality
ART centers, we perform GIFT and ZIFT; however, the majority of ART cycles are IVF cycles.
